After defending champion Lilia Vu and runner-up Angel Yin withdrew from the Chevron Championship with injuries on Thursday, a boatload of big names missed the cut at the Club of Carlton Woods.

A total of 73 players will play the weekend at the year’s first major, where South Korean rookie Jin Hee Im and Atthaya Thitikul lead the way at 8 under. Nelly Korda, who looks to win her fifth consecutive LPGA start, sits one back.

The cut fell at 2 over for the tournament.

Here’s a look at notables who won’t play the weekend:

Danielle Kang

Kang’s second-round 79 pushed her to 9 over for the championship. Combine that with rounds of 80-83 in extremely difficult conditions at home in Vegas at the T-Mobile Match Play, and it’s a rough stretch for the major champ. Kang currently ranks 65th in the world.

Lexi Thompson

Thompson struggled off the tee in an opening 78, hitting only five fairways. In Round 2, the 2014 Chevron champion found seven fairways. It added up to a 78-74 and a fourth missed cut in her last five starts at the majors.

Minjee Lee

Though she was playing alongside the red-hot Korda, Lee couldn’t draft any good vibes off the world No. 1. Lee’s rounds of 74-77 put her at 7 over for the tournament. It’s the two-time major winner’s first missed cut at a major since the 2019 Evian Championship.

Alison Lee

The hottest player to end the 2023 season, Lee’s 2024 season got off to a slow start after she suffered a dog bite that sent her to the hospital. She did post a pair of top-10 finishes in March but couldn’t recover from an opening 76 in Texas.

So Yeon Ryu

The former No. 1 last played on the LPGA at the 2023 BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea. She came back this week to say goodbye before she retires. The 2017 ANA Inspiration winner hopes to pursue golf course architecture and figure out ways to elevate the game outside the ropes. She shot 77-74 and was greeted warmly by a host of players and caddies off the 18th green.

Patty Tavatanakit

After a rip-roaring start to the season with a victory in Thailand in her second start, an opening 77 proved too much for Tavatanakit to overcome in the season’s first major. She recorded two double bogeys on the week and finished 4 over.

Leona Maguire

After finishing runner-up to Nelly Korda two weeks ago at the T-Mobile Match Play, Maguire took an early exit at the year’s first major. She hit only six fairways and six greens in a second-round 76 and missed the cut by two.

Celine Boutier

The Frenchwoman broke through with her first major title last season not far from home at the Amundi Evian Championship and won four times in 2023. But rounds of 75-73 sent her home early for the first time at a major since the 2022 Evian. Boutier finished runner-up this season at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore.

Rose Zhang

Rose Zhang missed the cut in a major for the first time since 2021 with rounds of 74-75. The 20-year-old took a long break from the tour during the winter quarter at Stanford. She had 32 and 31 putts in the first two rounds, respectively, and carded only three birdies for the tournament.

Jin Young Ko

After being away from competition for another month and a half due to injury, a rusty Ko couldn’t rebound from an opening 76. Ko shot 41 in her first nine holes of the tournament and missed the cut by one stroke. The former world No. 1 hasn’t won a major since 2019.

Stacy Lewis

The 2024 Solheim Cup captain grew up in The Woodlands and is staying at her parents’ home this weekend but those comforts weren’t enough to get her to the weekend. The former 2011 Chevron winner shot 39 on her back nine and hasn’t made a cut in this event since 2021.

Angela Stanford

Playing on a sponsor exemption, Stanford made her 98th consecutive major start this week in her native Texas. Though she started off nicely on Thursday, she lost momentum on the back nine and never really got it back, missing the cut by one. An eagle on the par-5 13th on Friday, however, was a highlight.

Stanford heads to U.S. Women’s Open qualifying next week to try to play her way into No. 99. Only Jack Nicklaus has played in 100 consecutive majors.

Bailey Tardy

A first-time winner on the LPGA in China this season, Tardy hasn’t made a cut since. Rounds of 76-75 sent the 27-year-old home early once again.
